The Framingham Town Democratic Committee will be holding its annual breakfast on Sunday March 19, 2017, at 10:00 AM in the function room at the Framingham Green Apartments, 136 Maynard Rd. All Framingham residents are welcome to join in the morning festivities as the Committee will hear from fellow Democrats who are running in the upcoming Town-Wide election, which takes place later this month.
Each of the Democratic candidates for town-wide office will be given an opportunity to address the attendees to discuss their campaign issues and answer questions as the Town elections, to be held on April 4, 2017. Attendance at the breakfast will present a unique opportunity to meet and discuss your concerns and hear the position of each of the candidates in attendance. We will be hearing statements from all Democratic town-wide office candidates, as well as introducing the Democrats who are present and running for Town Meeting Seats. We will also have on hand candidates for future state-wide election.
This year there are several hotly contested races in town. Long-time FDTC stalwart, Selectwoman Cheryl Tully Stoll, the current Chair of the Board will be running to retain her seat on that Board. Unenrolled incumbent Laurie Lee is also running for reelection. This year, there are two non-incumbents running, Town Meeting Members Deborah Butler and Gwendolyn Holbrow, both Associate Members of the town Committee.
Raymond Marchand, will be challenging Terri Banerjee for the Town Moderator’s position. Mr. Marchand will address the attendees.
Michelle Brosnahan; Jim Stockless, Town Committee Vice-Chair, Clerk of the School Committee and who is Chair of the Metropolitan Division of Mass Association of School Committees; and Donald Taggart, III, Vice-Chair of the School Committee will all be running in their second elections for the three available positions on the School Committee. Challenging them are Cheryl Gordon, a mother of two students, and host of a popular Facebook group concentrating on the public schools, and Town-wide PTO President Scott Wadland.
Democratic candidates for other various boards and commissions will also be given an opportunity to speak and Democratic Town Meeting candidates will also be introduced.
A short business meeting will follow the breakfast forum.
As always, there will be a collection for a charity, and attendees are encouraged to join in the donations. This month, the charity is in memory of Susie Spilka, Karen Spilka’s sister, and we are asking for cash/check donations to The ARC of Massachusetts, a 501(c)(3), an organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
All members are encouraged to bring breakfast items to be served that morning, although the usual breakfast feast will be served. Although there is no charge for this event, a $5.00 donation is encouraged to help defray the meal cost.
