FDC Votes To Support HD171 and SD395

At the February 24, 2019 business meeting of the Framingham Democratic Committee the membership voted overwhelmingly in favor of a recommendation from the legislative sub-committee supporting the bills titled:

“Massachusetts, An Act Relative to End of Life Options, HD171 and SD395.”

This is legislation allows terminally ill, mentally capable adults who have a prognosis of six months or less of life remaining to request, obtain and take medication – as their own choice – to die peacefully in their sleep if their suffering becomes unbearable.

The bill is modeled after the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. (The Oregon legislation has been in place for 20 years with no instances of abuse or coercion.)
