Committee Votes Name Change

Several Bylaws Amendments Passed Including Name Change

At the June 24, 2018 business meeting Framingham’s local Democratic committee changed its name from “Framingham Democratic Town Committee” to “Framingham Democratic Committee”.

This name change was one of several bylaw amendments that were taken up as part of the business meeting agenda.

The Committee changed its name removing the word “town” as Framingham changed its charter from town to city in 2017.  However the Committee did not adopt the name “City Committee” as its organizational structure will still be based on Chapter 52, Section 2 of the Massachusetts General Laws.  The City of Framingham is not structured into wards which is required in order to have the structure of a Democratic City Committee.(Read more…)

Forum For Candidates Contesting in the 6th Middlesex

The June 24, 2018 monthly meeting of the Framingham DTC will include a forum featuring the Democratic candidates contesting for the 6th Middlesex House seat (presently vacant following the passing of Chris Walsh in May).

The June business meeting is on June 24th taking place at the Framingham Green located at 136 Maynard Road in Framingham, starting at 7pm.  The meeting is preceded by a social hour where attendees can network and chat with the candidates informally.

Press Release – FORUM FOR 6TH MIDDLESEX CANDIDATES

FRAMINGHAM DEMOCRATS TO HOLD CANDIDATE FORUM FOR
6TH MIDDLESEX DISTRICT HOUSE CONTENDERS

Framingham (6/18/18) – The Framingham Democratic Town Committee will be holding its June Meeting at 7:00 PM, this Sunday, June 24th, in the Community Room at The Framingham Green, 136 Maynard Road.

The highlight of the meeting will be a Candidate Forum for the Democratic contestants running for the 6th Middlesex House District seat which was formerly held by Chris Walsh.  The candidates will each be given an opportunity to give a short opening introduction, respond to several questions, and do a short closing statement.

The members will consider bylaw amendments changing the name of the now-town committee, giving additional rights to Associate Members, and expanding the age range of members to include high school students that pre-register as Democrats.

Finally, the members will vote on a Resolution asking the City Council, Mayor, state delegation and congressional delegation to condemn the actions of the Trump Administration for their inhumane treatment of immigrant children.

It is anticipated that various candidates for state-wide constitutional office, as well as county and regional office will be in attendance. They will each be given an opportunity to discuss their campaigns.

This month’s charity will be collecting new or gently read books for donation to the King Elementary School Library.
